A Southbridge Kitchen Reimagined

Overview:

Nestled in the desirable Southbridge neighborhood of Savannah, GA, just minutes from I-95 and Highway 16, this beautiful garden home held charm, warmth, and family history. But after more than 20 years, the original kitchen design had become outdated and inefficient. As passionate home cooks and frequent entertainers, the homeowners dreamed of a space that combined modern functionality with timeless style.

After updating to an LG refrigerator and an induction range, they realized it was time for a complete kitchen renovation. With years of inspiration saved in Houzz idea books, they turned to the team at Kitchen Design Solutions, the best kitchen remodelers in Savannah, to transform their space into a stylish, hard-working hub that reflects their lifestyle and taste.

Problem:

Despite the generous footprint of the space, the original kitchen layout was cramped and poorly planned. The refrigerator door opened into the wall, causing dings and dents, and the room featured three different flooring materials, visually disrupting the flow between spaces.

The homeowners needed a kitchen design and remodel that maximized storage, improved workflow, and introduced brightness into a side of the home with limited natural light. As a garden home, the layout presented specific lighting challenges—and to complicate matters, the clients were traveling in Europe during the demolition and installation phase. Trust, communication, and precision were critical.

Solution:

• Kitchen Design Solutions, in partnership with Redmond Construction, delivered a stunning transformation, blending craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and streamlined communication—even while the homeowners were overseas.
  • Custom Kitchen Cabinetry: To make the space feel taller and brighter, ceiling-height cabinets were installed for added storage and visual impact. Lower cabinets were replaced with wide, soft-close drawers for better access and organization.
  • Storage Solutions: A dedicated pull-out for trash and recycling was conveniently placed by the sink, and a glass-front cabinet column added a personal, decorative touch.
  • Countertops & Backsplash: Elegant quartz kitchen countertops with soft veining brought sophistication without overpowering the room. A bold blue subway tile backsplash introduced color, character, and charm.
  • Flooring Upgrade: Replacing the mismatched flooring with continuous luxury vinyl plank (LVP) brought harmony and flow throughout the main living areas.
  • Appliances & Fixtures: New high-performance appliances, a deep farmhouse sink, and a powerful ventilation hood elevated this kitchen into a true culinary space designed for daily cooking and entertaining.
  • Lighting Enhancements: Layered lighting solutions brightened the room and added ambiance, making the space feel open and inviting even without direct natural light.

Throughout the process, the Kitchen Design Solutions team kept the homeowners informed and involved, despite their physical distance. Their attention to detail and transparent project updates made the experience stress-free and enjoyable.

The Result:

The end result is a luxury kitchen remodel that not only looks incredible but functions beautifully. This kitchen is now the heartbeat of the home—a place where family and friends gather, meals come together with ease, and every inch is designed to support real life.

The taller island has become the centerpiece for cooking, prepping, and casual conversation. The cohesive materials, custom cabinetry, and thoughtful layout prove that a kitchen renovation can dramatically improve both aesthetics and lifestyle.

“We love it! This kitchen is so easy to work in—highly functional and perfect for cooking and entertaining. We couldn’t be more satisfied. From design to punch-out, the attention to detail and communication were top-notch. Hands down, the best renovation we’ve ever had.”
