Kitchen Tranformation Before and After

Overview:

Let’s be honest—living with an ugly kitchen is like having a pebble in your shoe that you can’t shake loose. You try to ignore it, but it’s there, nagging at you every day. That was the reality for a family in The Landings on Skidaway Island in Savannah, GA. Their kitchen wasn’t just dated—it was downright depressing. Dark, cramped, and utterly uninspiring, it was the opposite of the bright, cheerful heart of the home they dreamed of. The family was tired of squinting under dim lighting with the dark drab cabinets to chop vegetables and dodging awkwardly placed cabinets while trying to cook dinner. Hosting? Forget it. The kitchen was more of a shameful corner to hide from guests than a place to gather.

But after living with this kitchen-induced misery for one year, they decided enough was enough. It was time for a change—time to create the inviting, functional space they deserved.

The Challenge: When Your Kitchen Feels Like a Dungeon

Before the transformation, the kitchen was riddled with problems. The cabinetry and finishes were outdated, the vibe was abysmal, and the space simply didn’t work for a modern family. Every attempt at cooking or hosting a meal felt like navigating an obstacle course.

To make matters worse, the renovation hit a few snags. Hidden construction and wiring issues added six weeks to the timeline, and there were some “oops” moments that required reworking cabinetry and appliances to make everything fit. It was frustrating, sure—but the family kept their eyes on the prize: a kitchen that would finally make them proud.

Our experience with KDS was phenomenal from start to finish. Cindy’s responsiveness and creativity, paired with Chris’s attention to detail, ensured a seamless process from design to installation, even when challenges arose. We absolutely love the bright, inviting atmosphere of our new kitchen—once an eyesore, it’s now a space where we enjoy spending time together, with ample storage and a perfect mix of cabinets and drawers!

Solution:

Armed with creative vision and expert craftsmanship, this family turned a chaotic, uninspiring space into a bright, modern masterpiece. The homeowners envisioned a clean, contemporary design with loads of natural light. They chose timeless Shiloh Flush Inset cabinetry in a Polar finish for a crisp, luminous look, paired with a gorgeous White Oak Natural Island that added warmth and sophistication. The white oak flooring tied everything together, creating a seamless, elegant, luxurious aesthetic.

One of the highlights is that they moved the laundry room to another location in the house adding a secret pantry hidden behind tall cabinet doors.  The hidden pantry hides all the counter appliances and dry food goods. “Butler’s pantry door” or “hidden scullery door,”is a design trend where a door seamlessly integrates into the cabinetry, appearing as part of the wall or a panel. This concealed entrance leads to a hidden prep or storage area, commonly a scullery or pantry. It’s sometimes marketed as a “hidden pantry door,”“integrated pantry door,” or “camouflaged scullery door” in luxury kitchen designs.

Key features like open shelving and glass display cabinets gave the space an airy feel and a personal touch, showcasing the family’s favorite items. Smart storage solutions—including a mix of drawers and cabinets, pull out utensil drawer, pull out cleaning supply organizer, double trash pull out drawer—brought a sense of order to what had been chaos.

When the dust settled and the final cabinet door was hung, the family stood in awe of their new space. It wasn’t just a kitchen—it was a lifestyle upgrade. The once-gloomy room became a bright, welcoming hub where everyone wanted to spend time. Today, their kitchen is more than just a room where meals are made. It’s a place where conversations flow, memories are created, and life happens. It’s a place where the family can truly enjoy being together—and isn’t that what every home deserves?
