Richmond Hill Kitchen Remodel Case Study

Creating Timeless Family Harmony with Coastal Classic Finishes

View Full Project Photos

Overview:

In the pursuit of creating a kitchen that seamlessly blends beauty and functionality, our client envisioned a truly one-of-a-kind kitchen reflecting their lifestyle. The objective was clear: design a kitchen that not only accommodates the family’s needs but also maintains a classic yet coastal aesthetic for long-term adaptability. Meetings with the sales and design team a year before construction allowed for insightful discussions on the project’s scope. Despite delays in appliance arrivals, including a unique AGA stove from England, KDS’s exemplary communication and adept problem-solving skills ensured a smooth process. The client commended the helpful guidance from Cindy and John, along with the outstanding support from their contractor.

Features to Incorporate:

“I wanted a large family island big enough for our extended family. In total, there are ten of us. I needed a functional side for cooking, another side for everyone to gather, hidden storage, and I decorative storage on the ends.

I wanted a dedicated pantry to hide the kitchen mess behind closed doors when we entertain! We moved the laundry room upstairs and used that space for secondary storage, with an extra sink, dishwasher, fridge & and microwave.

We drink a lot of coffee and tea and we wanted a dedicated beverage station.

Living on the marsh, we love to enjoy the outdoors. I want the design to flow smoothly to our beautiful outdoor deck.

I wanted to incorporate natural walnut with a painted off-white finish”

Solution:

The resultant design achieved a delicate balance. Two large family islands in natural walnut, with dedicated functional and gathering sides, were created to cater to the client’s extended family needs. The inclusion of hidden storage and decorative features enhanced both aesthetics and practicality. A strategically placed pantry is crucial for concealing kitchen mess during entertaining. Relocating the laundry room allowed for secondary storage and a dedicated beverage station. The design seamlessly extended to an outdoor deck, emphasizing the family’s love for outdoor living.

The overall satisfaction with KDS is described as extremely high. The kitchen surpassed expectations in functionality, quality, and design. The kitchen design addressed the client’s desire for a beautiful yet highly functional space. The challenges centered around the placement of two islands and incorporating a dining table, complexities efficiently tackled during the construction phase.

We are extremely satisfied with KDS. The kitchen's functionality, quality, and overall design exceeded our expectations, providing a highly positive experience. Saying that the kitchen is the heart of the home is so true for our family. Our kitchen island is the centerpiece! I can work on the island, and the kids can do their homework. It used to feel cramped, even during dinners, because the table didn't function well. Honestly, it’s much more functional now. Now, we can flow into our living room and family room seamlessly. It feels like it’s meant to be, and we have all the storage I could ever want.
