Overview: A Coastal Kitchen Built for Real Life
When this homeowner set out to renovate the kitchen of her second home in Palmetto Dunes, Hilton Head Island, SC, she had a clear vision: shaker-style cabinetry, a relaxed coastal aesthetic, and a space built to handle a house full of family during holidays and vacations. She knew from the start she wanted beaded inset cabinets, and Shiloh’s Hanover Beaded Inset in Polar on maple delivered exactly the crisp, timeless character she had in mind, perfectly suited to the coastal surroundings of Hilton Head Island.
The existing kitchen was large and bright, but its dated layout and two-tiered angled island stood in the way of how she actually wanted to live. Kitchen Design Solutions worked alongside her to turn that vision into a fully functional, jaw-dropping renovation, completed by Easter and ready for a full house.
The Problem: A Beautiful Space That Wasn’t Working
Large kitchens come with their own set of challenges, and this Palmetto Dunes home was no exception. The kitchen had generous square footage and natural light pouring in from multiple windows, but those same windows left very little usable wall space. The island with raised bar seating was impractical, storage was minimal, and the kitchen had no pantry of any kind.
The core challenge: fitting everything a busy Hilton Head vacation home kitchen demands into essentially two working walls, without sacrificing style or function.
Common kitchen renovation challenges this project solved:
- Outdated split-height island layout with poor functionality
- Limited wall space due to large windows
- No pantry storage
- Lack of prep and entertaining space
- Insufficient trash solutions for large gatherings
