Overview:
For this couple who recently moved into The Landings on Skidaway Island from Florida, outdoor living wasn’t just a lifestyle—it was the way of life. So when they moved into their new Lowcountry home and began dreaming up the perfect porch setup, one thing was clear: the outdoors needed to feel like an extension of the indoors—comfortable, beautiful, and fully functional for everyday life.
They imagined a screened-in lanai that felt refined and relaxed, a spot where they could grill five nights a week, entertain with ease, and still find a little shade during Savannah’s hot sizzling summers with gnats and no-seeums. With Kitchen Design Solutions by their side, they brought that vision to life—bugs be gone, grill fired up, and not a single complaint along the way.
The Problem:
There wasn’t much drama with this project (praise be). But there was one lingering issue: time. The overall build, managed by their home builder, took longer than expected—about a year from start to finish. They broke ground in April 2023 and finally got to kick back in April 2024. It was worth the wait, but let’s just say patience was tested.
Also, this family needed outdoor space that didn’t just look pretty—it had to perform. Bugs made open-air dining tough, so the porch had to be screened. And with summer mornings bringing the kind of sun that makes you sweat just thinking about it, they needed shade that worked year-round, not just for a few cooler months.
But really, the main goal was this: create an elegant, modern-classic outdoor kitchen that felt just as polished as the one inside—without sacrificing durability or ease of use.
